USA Has No Chance? How About a 1-1 Tie?
(Rustenburg, South Africa) – Did ya hear that anytime today from people other than most Americans? Namely the ones from across the pond? You’ve just reassured most people that as long as there is a pitch and both teams show up, and a goal at each end, there’s always a chance. That chance showed up today and his name was Robert Green. The English keeper probably the best that England had to offer considering that this game was a supposedly an easy victory, gave that idea up when he poorly mishandled a so-so strike from Clint Dempsey from atop of the box. He just misplayed it off his hands, and when he did it looked like he was in a bit of panic for second enough for him to lose balance that allowed the ball to hobble passed him into the net in the 40th minute to tie the game 1-1. It seemed like it might have been a England goal storm by the way they so easily scored the first goal inside the 4th minute by Steven Gerrard. After a mouthful to his defenders, USA Keeper Tim Howard and the rest of them settled down and started to play within themselves. They withstood the English onslaught in the second half of precise passing and shots on goal to keep the game tied to the end. England out shot USA 18-12, and possessed the ball 57% of the time. The draw earned a +330 @ bodog.com for those who figured there would be no winner.
Next up for USA is Slovenia Fri June 18th 10:00 AM ET Ellis Park
